GRSS recognizes its members’ contributions with the following awards.

Major Awards: (Nomination Deadline: December 15)
- Golden Florin Award:
This is a joint Italian Centre for Microwave Remote Sensing (CeTeM) and GRSS Award to recognize contributions of eminent GRSS members for their outstanding contributions to microwave remote sensing.
Nominations to each of the following four awards must be submitted via the Award Nomination Tool at http://nt.grss-ieee.org/awards/
- Fawwaz Ulaby Distinguished Achievement Award:
To recognize an individual who has made significant technical contributions over a sustained period. - Outstanding Service Award:
To recognize an individual who has given outstanding service for the benefit and advancement of the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. - Education Award:
To recognize an individual who has made significant educational contributions in terms of the innovation and extent of its overall impact. - Industry Leader Award:
To recognize an individual who has made significant contributions over a sustained period of time in industrial and/or commercial remote sensing discipline.
Special Awards: (Nomination Deadline: December 15)
- Chapter Excellence Award:
To recognize excellence in a GRSS or Joint Local Chapter, demonstrated by exemplary local GRSS activities during the previous year.
Nominations to each of the following three awards must be submitted via the Award Nomination Tool at http://nt.grss-ieee.org/awards/
- Early Career Award:
To promote, recognize and support young scientists and engineers in the Society who have demonstrated outstanding ability and promise for significant contributions in the future. - Regional Leader Award:
To promote, recognize and support members of the Society who are pivotal and have performed significant contributions in a region where the GRSS membership and local activities have substantially increased in recent years. - David Landgrebe Award:
This is a GRSS career award, which is awarded for outstanding contributions in the field of remote sensing image analysis.
Publications Awards:
- Highest Impact Paper Award:
To recognize the author(s) who have published during the past five years in an IEEE GRSS Journal the scientific paper that has received the highest number of citations and impact over the past 5 years as measured by the Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation index. - Transactions Prize Paper Award:
For a paper judged to be of exceptional merit published in the GRS Transactions during the prior calendar year. - Letters Prize Paper Award:
For a paper judged to be of exceptional merit published in the GRS Letters during the prior calendar year. - J-STARS Prize Paper Award:
For a paper judged to be of exceptional merit published in the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing during the prior calendar year.
Symposium Awards:
- Symposium Prize Paper Award:
For a paper judged to be of exceptional merit presented at the prior year’s IGARSS. - Symposium Interactive Session Prize Paper Award:
For an interactive paper judged to be of exceptional merit presented at the prior year’s IGARSS. - Mikio Takagi Student Prize:
To recognize a student who has presented an outstanding paper at the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS). This award goes to the first place student. (see also here) - Student Prize Paper Awards:
To recognize students who have presented outstanding papers at the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS). These awards go to the 2nd and 3rd place students.
